Cinderella and the City
Does anyone else remember the blue shoes that Sarah Jessica Parker wore in the Sex and the City movie? I do! Especially due to the fact that when she placed them in here newly installed walk in wardrobe, a light seemed to surround them; a light that shone with all the glow of a freshly polished halo! After Cinderella, I dismissed the idea of anyone actually getting a fairy tale ending that involved a man and a pair of pretty shoes but Carrie dearest [fictional character though she may be] managed to do precisely this. As I watched the movie, I remember feeling happy that Carrie and Big were FINALLY getting married but I also remember a distinct pang of shoe envy [and perhaps if I am honest, good, old - fashioned regular envy]. Not only does she have an awesome job in the city, an amazing wardrobe [which was now being supplemented by designers such as Vera Wang] BUT she also managed to beguile Big; a wealthy, decent looking man and enlist him as her very own prince charming. The shoes themselves were not exactly glass slippers [but I am certain they were a damn sight more comfortable] but rather, royal blue satin heeled Manolo Blahniks with a crystal buckle and I later discovered that said shoes also cost $895 which would loosely translate to being the equivalent of my one month's rent! I have done many an insane thing in my life BUT I think I just may have to draw the line at defaulting with my rent payment in order to obtain a pair of shoes [albeit a pair of gorgeous shoes].It almost seems pathetic to envy a fictitious character but that simply will not change. Now all I need is to do is to find me an affordable Manolo copy and then of course become a mad scientist and create myself a man who will do my bidding and ergo propose to me in my 'FANOLO FLAHNIKS'! Hmmm, methinks this is one fairytale that shall not come true! :(
