We have seen it done by musical artists like Madonna, Lady Gaga and perhaps Kate Perry but what should have been firmly labelled under ‘creative/performance purposes’ is now set to become a norm for fashionistas everywhere; let me explain. An incoming trend prediction for the summer of 2010 is the ‘bra top’. If you are confused then this would be the moment to breathe a sigh of relief, as you are not alone. They are not quite the lacy contraptions that you use as a functional device to encase your bosoms, neither are they T shirts or sheer blouses but rather the ‘bra top’ is an interesting combination of the two in a creation that has all the sensual appeal of a bra but with approximately one inch more of material that allows it also to constitute as a top. According to UK vogue, this is the expected sight to be seen on the bodies of all women; bra tops apparently can be worn over T shirts, under cardigans or just on their own with a hint of stomach revealed. Now before the more traditional minded folk start shaking their heads at the brazen nature of the generation of today, here is the interesting part: this trend is a daring revamp of a concept that began way back in 1907. Yes that is correct, in centuries past, American Vogue illustrated a ‘rigid, boned brassiere’ with no division between the breast and this was worn OVER the corset. This just goes to further illustrate the fact that fashion just repeats itself [albeit with subtle nuances] as the years go by. So ladies when you wear an outrageous mini skirt or guys, when you don a pair of ball crunching skinny jeans, rest assured in the fact that your [great] grandparents most likely wore a similar ensemble in their day.
